2-Ingredient Chia Jam
Valentina P
An easy homemade 2-ingredient strawberry chia jam recipe where you taste real fruit, not just added sugar. Spread over toasts, oatmeal, and yogurts for a healthy jam.
How To MakeDiet Type: Plant-based
Shopping List
- 4 ounces fresh or frozen strawberries (about 1 scant cup)
- 2 teaspoons chia seeds (Note 1)
- 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: If using frozen berries, either thaw them in the refrigerator overnight, in the microwave, or in a small saucepan over medium heat. The berries should be soft enough to mash. For fresh strawberries, hull and chop them into pieces.
- Step 2: Transfer the thawed (and drained) or fresh berries into a bowl with the chia seeds and honey. If using fresh berries, add in 1 teaspoon of water to help mash. Mash the berries with a fork until soft and jam-like. Cover and transfer to fridge to thicken for at least one hour.
- Serve: Taste and adjust ingredients as needed: add more honey for a sweeter flavor, or add more chia seeds if the berries were on the watery side. Keep refrigerated and enjoy.
Recipe Notes
Note 1: If you notice your chia seeds aren't thickening after 15 minutes, you may have old chia seeds. Just replace the old chia seeds with a fresh bag.
