Valentina P
This homemade cranberry sauce is easy and not too sweet! Simply simmer the whole cranberries in a blend of orange juice, sugar, and a hint of ginger. Perfect for topping any holiday meals.
How To MakeDiet Type: Plant-based
Shopping List
- 1 (12 ounce) bag fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup cane or coconut sugar (double it for extra sweet, Note 1)
- 1 orange peel
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder (optional)
- pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Place the orange juice, water, and sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Once simmering, add the whole cranberries, orange peel, optional ginger, and optional nutmeg.
- Step 2: Reduce the heat to medium, cover with a lid, and simmer for 8 minutes. Stir every few minutes. After 8 minutes, remove the lid and continue to cook for 2 more minutes. Turn off the heat and let cool (it will thicken as it cools).
- Serve: Pick out the orange peel and transfer the cooled sauce to a serving bowl. This is delicious over Sweet Potato Lentil Loaf.
Recipe Notes
Note 1: This will make a tart cranberry sauce, which is ideal for people who don't prefer a sweet sauce. If you prefer it quite sweet, try using 3/4 cup up to 1 cup of sugar.
