For the Beef
- 1 pound 90% lean ground beef (or lamb)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 1/4 teaspoons allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon sumac (or lemon zest)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper For the Rest
- 1 cup hummus (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/4 cup pine nuts
- chopped parsley, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Toast the pine nuts in a dry frying pan over medium heat until lightly browned and fragrant, about 2 minutes. Shake the pan often to avoid burning. Once toasted, transfer immediately to a small bowl.
- Step 2: Melt the butter in the same empty frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the ground beef and all of the spices. Cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Use the side of a spatula to continuously break up the meat into small pieces. Once cooked, set aside.
- Serve: Spoon the hummus into a serving plate or bowl, spreading the hummus with a spoon to make a slight inner cavity. Transfer the warm ground beef over the hummus. Top with the toasted pine nuts and a sprinkle of parsley. Enjoy.
